Karl Anderson said: Yup, Meadows and More has it right – that’s Indian pink, Spigelia marilandica. I think it’s one of the prettiest wildflowers. It’s not native to New Jersey. But it grows as far north as Indiana so I assume it would grow here. I’ve seen it in South Carolina and northern Florida. It’s in the same plant family (Loganiaceae) as yellow jessamine.
