this must be a bumper year for shiso-perilla. a “emerging” invasive species that is cropping up all over….so maybe now…just plain invasive. but with huge variability in flavor and aroma…we personally prefer the green….

Hmm. That’s interesting. I think I first saw that plant growing as an escape in New Jersey, very locally, about 30 years ago. Might have been on Bull’s Island. It puzzled me at the time.

It goes to show that trying to perfectly match size and color in a photo may not be that reliable. field naturalists and botanists look at structural tips like: opposite branching leaves and square stem….which Karl and I incorporate in Foraged Flavor
